Men and Sin
I ate lunch with a bunch of pastors yesterday (had a mtng thing in Indy)...one of them shared that within 15 months, 3 men in his church had some sort of moral failure (porn, outright adultery, etc.).
Later on in the day, I inquired about a pastoral change at a church, and asked what happened to the previous pastor...my question was received by blank stares from everyone in the conversation. Talk about your awkward moment. One of them finally pulled me aside and broke the news as to how the guy had been cheating on his wife for over a year, and they are now on the brink of divorce. I know that men aren't the only one's guilty of this, but I plead with you men - live lives of integrity and character! GSB gents! Lead your family, church, community in holiness and Godliness! Stop fooling around with sin...I MEAN TODAY! Take the wisdom of Proverbs to heart - Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. 24 Put away perversity from your mouth; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. 25 Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. (Proverbs 4:23)
2 action points here:
1) If you are caught up in sin, repent to Jesus first, then go to your LG leader, or an Elder of the church, and confess now (James 5:16). Then let's work together on restoration and healing (Galatians 6:1-5).
2) Stop looking at porn! Get accountability in this area. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, but go directly to Covenant Eyes and sign up for their accountability software. Make sure you have at least 2 people signed up with you to hold you accountable (someone other than your pastor, preferably someone in your Life Group who you are already doing life with). If porn is not the issue, then have the guts to do whatever else you need to do to stay right before God!
Good line. Do not pass Go. :)
